Sungrow, a global leader in PV inverters and energy storage systems, announced the successful commissioning of the Citicore Solar (CS) Batangas 1 Project in Lumbangan, Tuy. This marks the first phase of Citicore’s landmark 1.5 GWh BESS initiative and the Philippines’ first solar power plant equipped with large-scale battery storage capable of providing true baseload renewable energy.

Powered by Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 solution, the 197 MWp solar facility paired with a 125 MW/320 MWh BESS achieved record-fast VSG off-grid commissioning in just two days, setting a new standard for efficiency and reliability in hybrid renewable projects.

The commercial operation ceremony, attended by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the Department of Energy Philippines, and Citicore Renewable Energy Corporation (CREC), underscored a historic milestone for the nation’s renewable sector. The President toured Sungrow’s advanced energy storage system, highlighting its role in enhancing energy security and sustainability, while the Department of Energy praised the facility for addressing the challenge of inconsistent power supply with cutting-edge battery technology.

Key achievements during the pre-grid connection phase included:

  • Rapid VSG Off-Grid Commissioning: Completed in just two days, ensuring stable PV-to-BESS charging prior to grid energization. The PowerTitan 2.0’s all-in-one AC-DC design, with pre-assembled battery modules and PCS, allowed seamless integration, reducing installation time and project costs while enabling early energy delivery.
  • First Solar-Plus-Storage VRE Compliance Test in the Philippines: Sungrow collaborated with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to establish new testing standards for hybrid renewable projects, providing a benchmark for future solar-plus-storage developments nationwide.
