Rivington Energy has announced the acquisition of three co-located solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 139MW from GRIDSERVE, a leading operator in the charge point, solar, and battery storage sector. The portfolio includes two Ready-to-Build (RTB) projects and one pre-RTB project, located across Scunthorpe, Doncaster, and Hartlepool.

The acquisition consists of a 54MW RTB solar and 72MWh battery storage project in Scunthorpe, a 44MW RTB project in Doncaster, and a 41MW pre-RTB project in Hartlepool. Construction will begin in October 2025, starting with the Scunthorpe site, which will be the first to enter the build phase. The project is expected to be energised by September 2026, after which it will supply renewable energy to the national grid as well as local industrial offtakers.

Once fully developed, the three projects together will deliver up to 160MWh of battery energy storage, contributing to grid stability and supporting the UK’s renewable energy transition. Rivington Energy has an extensive track record in renewable development, having delivered over 1.25GW of consented renewable energy projects since 2021 and several hundred megawatts of operating assets over the last decade. The company’s continued investment in clean energy infrastructure aligns with its commitment to driving environmental and social impact.

Andrew Newman, Executive Director at Rivington Energy, said, “Our team is passionate about pioneering innovative energy solutions to support the transition to net zero. We are delighted to have collaborated closely with our parent company, Federated Hermes Limited, to acquire these projects, and we are excited to begin their construction.”
