Jollibee Group has reached a major sustainability milestone by shifting 99% of the electricity used in its Philippine commissaries and logistics centers to renewable energy. The transition was achieved through a strategic partnership with First Gen Corporation, a leading renewable energy provider in the country.

The company marked the start of this initiative with a ceremonial “switch-on” event held in late January 2024 at its Laguna commissary. Under the agreement, 11 megawatts of geothermal power supplied by First Gen now energize key facilities. Geothermal energy plays an important role in the Philippines because it provides reliable baseload power, ensuring a steady and uninterrupted electricity supply. This is especially critical for large-scale food manufacturing and logistics operations that require consistent energy to maintain production efficiency and food safety standards.

With this transition, Jollibee Group expects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70% across the covered facilities. The move forms part of its broader “Joy for Tomorrow” sustainability agenda, which focuses on embedding responsible practices throughout its operations and supply chain.

The renewable energy shift builds on earlier green initiatives. In 2023, the company installed around 17,000 solar panels across its distribution and manufacturing sites in Laguna and Parañaque. These installations added more than 9 megawatts of solar capacity, complementing the newly secured geothermal supply.

Company leaders emphasized that the decision to adopt clean energy is not only about protecting the environment but also about strengthening business resilience. By ensuring a stable and sustainable energy source, the company can maintain reliable food production as it continues to expand globally. Executives noted that sustainability begins at the production stage, long before food reaches customers.

Representatives from First Gen praised the partnership, highlighting that the combined use of geothermal and solar power demonstrates a balanced and forward-looking growth strategy. The initiative also contributes to global climate and clean energy goals. Through this transition, Jollibee Group sets an example for the Philippine food industry, showing how large-scale commercial operations can move toward a more sustainable and future-ready energy model.
