In a landmark move for sustainable events, ADNEC Group, a Modon company, has partnered with Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) to power the ADNEC Centre Al Ain entirely with renewable and clean energy.

Hosting over 500 events annually, the Al Ain venue will now operate with zero carbon emissions from its energy use, reinforcing ADNEC Group’s position as a global leader in sustainable event management.

The agreement was signed by Humaid Al Dhaheri, Group Chief Executive Officer of ADNEC Group, and Ahmed Ali Alshamsi, Chief Executive Officer of EWEC, in the presence of key representatives from both organisations. The expanded partnership is set to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of major events held at ADNEC Centre Al Ain.

“With all our venues now powered by renewable energy, we are not only reducing our environmental footprint but also setting an industry benchmark as we work towards net zero carbon events by 2045,” said Al Dhaheri.

Alshamsi added, “EWEC’s partnership with ADNEC Group, first powering ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi and now extending to Al Ain, marks a significant milestone in our joint sustainability journey. This expansion reflects our mutual commitment to accelerating the UAE’s clean energy transition, supporting the decarbonisation of key economic sectors, and contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals.”

Under this agreement, ADNEC Centre Al Ain will source 100% of its grid power from EWEC’s renewable and clean energy portfolio, verified through International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC) issued by the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy.

ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi previously became the first and largest event venue in the MENA region to operate entirely on clean energy. In April 2025, the venue received its first I-REC, confirming that all electricity consumed was generated from renewable sources, powering 166 events without any carbon dioxide emissions.

With this latest initiative, all four ADNEC Group venues—including ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, ADNEC Centre Al Ain, ExCeL London, and the Business Design Centre—are now fully powered by renewable energy. The Group aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045, five years ahead of the UAE’s national 2050 target.
