Renewables firm InSolare has secured a $398m government contract to supply 85,000 tonnes of green ammonia to two Indian fertiliser producers per year.
The contract, signed with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), will see the firm provide Madhya Bharat Agro Products (MBAPL) and Paradeep Phosphates (PPL) with 70,000 tonnes and 15,000 tonnes of ammonia annually for 10 years.
It comes under India’s Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, a demand aggregation initiative in which SECI has awarded 13 tenders to fertiliser plants across India for 724,000 tonnes of green ammonia.
MBAPL aims to use the green ammonia at its Dhule project – set for commissioning in September 2026 – while PPL could integrate it into its Mangalore fertiliser facility. It would likely be combined with phosphoric and sulphuric acid produced at the facilities for the final stages of fertiliser synthesis.
This follows Indian renewables firm Jakson Green finalising its SECI SIGHT tender for 85,000 tonnes of green ammonia to fertiliser producer Coromandel International.
The viability of tenders under the program has come under scrutiny, with their prices often equating to less than $600 per tonne, significantly lower than comparable contracts seen elsewhere.
In December 2025, Wood Mackenzie predicted that 285,000 tonnes of Indian green ammonia would be withdrawn prior to supply agreements being concluded, citing scepticism around developers achieving such low prices.
India has, however, been strengthening its position to become a prominent green ammonia supplier to the European market, which sees delays in development at home.
and have both signed large-scale agreements for green ammonia from Indian supplier AM Green.
