Russia’s Black Sea port of Tuapse was targeted and hit by a new Ukrainian drone strike early on Friday, in the fourth attack on the port in just one week as Ukraine looks to limit Russia’s oil exports and revenues amid soaring crude prices.
Since international crude oil prices surged following the war in the Middle East, Russia has boosted its oil revenues as not only prices have jumped, but Russian oil was made desirable in India again, thanks to a U.S. waiver for sales on Russia’s crude already loaded on tankers.
Over the past week, Ukrainian drone attacks have targeted Tuapse on the Black Sea four times. The latest attack caused a fire at a terminal, but no injuries were reported.
But the series of attacks at Tuapse has caused severe environmental damage, including black rain and oil spills in the sea.

Tuapse and Novorossiysk on the Black Sea, as well as Ust-Luga and Primorsk on the Baltic Sea, have been targeted by Ukrainian drones multiple times over the past weeks as Ukraine looks to limit Russia’s ability to benefit from the surge in oil prices.
Earlier this week, Ukraine also hit a Russian oil pumping station in the Perm region in the Ural Mountains, just a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy touted the increasing range and accuracy of Ukrainian drones.
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) targeted a production and dispatch station owned by Transneft more than 1,500 kilometers from Ukraine’s border, with unconfirmed reports indicating that almost all oil storage tanks at the facility were set ablaze.
Ukraine also said it had struck a refinery in the Orenburg region in southern Russia, about 900 miles away from Ukraine.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukraine is now conducting a sophisticated long-range strike campaign, leveraging Russia’s massive geography which makes it nearly impossible for the Kremlin to provide comprehensive air defense coverage for every critical facility across thousands of kilometers.
