CEO switch: How will Air Products shift its strategy?

The appointment of former Linde executive Eduardo Menezes as Air Products’ new CEO marks a significant turning point for the industrial gas giant – and it is one that could reshape its approach to clean hydrogen, where it has taken a lead with key projects like NEOM in Saudi Arabia.

Menezes’ move into the top spot follows an investor-driven boardroom shake-up led by activist investor Mantle Ridge, which played a role in ousting longtime boss Seifi Ghasemi amid concerns over CAPEX and the company’s $15bn clean hydrogen pipeline.

A strategic recalibration?

Under Ghasemi, Air Products had made bold moves to make it one of the most aggressive backers of clean hydrogen – investing in some of the world’s largest production projects, including the 2.2GW NEOM green hydrogen plant.
