The University of Sharjah (UoS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lootah BioFuels to strengthen cooperation in education, scientific research, environmental sustainability, and renewable energy, supporting the UAE’s transition toward a circular economy and reduced carbon emissions.

The agreement was signed at the University of Sharjah by Prof. Esameldin Agamy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and Yusuf Saeed Lootah, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Lootah BioFuels.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Agamy highlighted the university’s commitment to advancing clean energy education and research. He noted that UoS has developed specialised bachelor’s and master’s programmes in energy, with doctoral programmes in development, alongside active research in solar energy, green hydrogen, and sustainable fuel technologies.

He said the collaboration brings together Lootah BioFuels’ industrial expertise with the university’s academic and research capabilities, creating a strong platform for joint innovation. He also emphasised opportunities for student training, graduation projects, and research collaboration aimed at preparing skilled national talent for the UAE’s sustainability agenda.

Yusuf Saeed Lootah said the partnership reflects the company’s commitment to scientific research, knowledge exchange, and raising awareness about recycling and clean energy. He added that the collaboration will help develop a new generation of professionals capable of supporting the circular economy and advancing low-carbon solutions.

The MoU establishes a broad framework for academic and technical cooperation, including joint research initiatives, innovation programmes, workshops, training activities, and knowledge exchange. It also focuses on sustainability-driven projects such as environmental awareness campaigns and the recycling of used oils generated from university operations into biofuel and other sustainable energy products, in line with UAE standards.

The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both institutions, including representatives from the University of Sharjah’s academic and administrative leadership and executives from Lootah BioFuels.
