Advancing Solar Tracking in the Middle East: An Interview with Cheng Peng, Founder and Chairman, JSolar Inc.

Q: Can you share an overview of JSolar Inc.’s journey in the Middle-Eastern market and its key achievements in solar tracking solutions?

JSolar has been in the solar tracker and mounting system business for 13 years. Around two years ago, we decided to establish a strong presence in the Middle Eastern market, recognizing the region’s vast potential in solar energy. To support this, we set up an office in Dubai and built a local team to serve our clients better.

We’ve already achieved some significant milestones. Just last month, we were included as a Category A vendor for ACWA Power, making us the seventh tracker manufacturer worldwide to receive this recognition. This is a major achievement, as it demonstrates the trust and credibility we’ve built within the industry.

Additionally, we recently completed shipping our first project for Masdar, another key player in the Middle Eastern renewable energy sector. These milestones highlight our commitment to the region and showcase the growing demand for our advanced tracking solutions.

Q: What are the unique features and advantages of your solar tracking systems that make them suitable for the Middle East’s diverse climatic conditions?

Our horizontal single-axis trackers come with several unique features that make them ideal for the challenging climatic conditions of the Middle East.

One of the most important innovations is our multi-drive tracker mounting system. This system is designed to enhance stability in high-wind conditions, a crucial factor in desert environments where strong winds can impact solar installations. Unlike traditional single-drive systems, our multi-drive technology ensures robustness while also keeping costs low.

We have also integrated AI-based algorithms to optimize our solar trackers. These algorithms continuously analyze environmental conditions and adjust the tracker positioning to maximize power generation. This smart tracking system allows for greater energy efficiency, even in fluctuating weather conditions.

Another key feature is our electrical synchronization control for multi-drive tracking. Many traditional systems use mechanical synchronization, which can be complex and difficult to install. Our electrically controlled synchronization system makes installation easier, faster, and more reliable, reducing overall maintenance costs while ensuring long-term durability.

Q: How does JSolar Inc. address challenges like cost-efficiency, scalability, and performance optimization in solar tracking technologies for large-scale solar projects?

Cost is always a key factor in large-scale projects, particularly in the Middle East, where gigawatt-scale solar farms are becoming the norm. At JSolar, we focus on three key areas to address these challenges:

  • Technology Innovation – We constantly refine our tracking solutions to make them more efficient and cost-effective. Our AI-driven tracking system and multi-drive technology allow us to optimize performance without increasing costs.
  • Manufacturing Optimization – To lower production costs, we work closely with our vendors and continuously improve our supply chain. This allows us to deliver high-quality trackers at competitive prices.
  • Localized Supply Chain – We are in the process of establishing our own manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia. By producing locally, we can significantly reduce logistics costs, import duties, and overall expenses, making our products even more affordable for regional clients.

By focusing on these strategies, we ensure that our solar tracking solutions remain cost-efficient, scalable, and optimized for high performance, making them the ideal choice for large-scale projects in the Middle East.

Q: What are your plans for expanding operations, introducing new technologies, or collaborating with Middle Eastern stakeholders to enhance the adoption of solar tracking systems?

We have big expansion plans, both in terms of technology development and regional presence.

  • Expanding Our Innovation Team – Our R&D team in Spain is growing rapidly. We already have a strong technical innovation team there, but we are actively recruiting more experts to enhance our technology offerings further.
  • Strengthening Our Middle Eastern Operations – Our Dubai office is growing, and we are increasing our team size to serve clients in the region better. In addition, we are setting up a manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia, which will play a crucial role in making our tracking solutions more accessible and cost-effective for Middle Eastern projects.
  • Building Stronger Partnerships – We are actively working with local stakeholders, developers, and government entities to promote the adoption of advanced solar tracking technologies. Our goal is to provide solutions that align with regional energy goals and sustainability targets.

By combining cutting-edge technology, local production capabilities, and strong partnerships, we are positioning JSolar as a leader in the Middle Eastern solar tracking market, helping drive the transition towards more efficient and cost-effective renewable energy solutions.
