Industrial gas major Air Liquide will invest $150m in a new industrial gas production plant in Idaho to supply ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen and argon to a semiconductor manufacturer.
The plant is expected to begin operations in 2028 and forms part of an extended partnership between Air Liquide and the undisclosed customer.
Air Liquide’s investment follows several other similar moves made by the company in US semiconductor hubs including Arizona, Indiana, Virginia, Texas, and New York.
Idaho’s largest semiconductor manufacturer is Micron Technology, with its headquarters in Boise. Other companies in market include Onsemi, American Semiconductor, and JST Manufacturing.
Matthieu Giard, Air Liquide Group Executive Committee member responsible for operations in the Americas, said the latest investment will help meet the growing demand for critical industrial gases required to manufacture advanced chips.
“Building on the…relationship we have established as their current supplier, our customer’s decision to choose us for this new phase of growth…trust in our proven capabilities in Idaho,” he added.
