Multinational utility Uniper has selected Worley as preferred engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for its proposed power station at Connah’s Quay in Deeside, UK.
The station would connect into nearby carbon dioxide transport and storage infrastructure as part of the , enabling captured CO2 to be transported to permanent offshore storage facilities in repurposed depleted offshore gas fields. The first phase of the low carbon power project could be operational from 2030.
If consented and developed, the new power station would be fitted with carbon capture technology to capture at least 95% of its CO2 emissions. Uniper was chosen following conclusion of the front end engineering design (FEED) competition.
Jim Shaughnessy, President, Major Projects & Programs, EMEA, Worley, said together with Siemens Energy, SLB Capturi and construction partners, it has assembled an integrated team combining technology, engineering and project delivery expertise.
“Through our experience delivering complex energy infrastructure projects, we understand the importance of integrating technology, execution planning and delivery from the outset,” he said.
Uniper is working towards a potential capacity of up to a maximum of 1.38GW low-carbon power, developed in two phases.
