Chinese electronic gas equipment developer G-Gas has signed a long-term strategic agreement with South Korean bulk electronic gas supplier AF E&C to deploy and optimise its ultra-high-purity nitrogen generation platform for semiconductor manufacturers in South Korea.
Under the agreement, the companies will jointly optimise G-Gas’ proprietary ‘Super-N’ nitrogen generation platform and develop customised onsite supply solutions for AF E&C’s semiconductor customers.
The partnership combines G-Gas’ nitrogen generation technology with AF E&C’s local engineering, operations and market access, targeting tier-one memory and foundry manufacturers as demand for ultra-high-purity gases continues to grow alongside AI-driven semiconductor production.
Ultra-high-purity nitrogen is a critical utility gas in semiconductor fabrication, where it is used to purge process equipment, protect sensitive manufacturing environments from contamination and oxidation, and support numerous fabrication processes.
As chip geometries continue to shrink, fabs require increasingly reliable, stable and contaminant-free gas supplies.
G-Gas said the collaboration is intended to improve supply stability, cost efficiency and gas purity by tailoring its nitrogen generation systems to the specific requirements of individual semiconductor manufacturing sites.
The companies also expect the partnership to shorten project deployment times, lower lifecycle operating costs and strengthen regional supply resilience.
The agreement comes as South Korea’s semiconductor industry continues to expand rapidly.
According to the Bank of Korea, the sector accounted for 10.1% of the country’s manufacturing output in 2024, overtaking steel to become the nation’s largest manufacturing industry as investment in AI infrastructure drove demand for advanced memory chips.
The country’s growing semiconductor capacity is also driving investment in industrial gas infrastructure.
Earlier this year, Air Products signed a to build, own and operate industrial gas production facilities and a bulk specialty gas system at Samsung Electronics’ expanding semiconductor campus in Pyeongtaek, where it will supply nitrogen, oxygen, argon and hydrogen from 2028 through multiple development phases.
