Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) commissioned 793 new 11kV substations across Dubai during the first half of 2026, strengthening the emirate’s electricity distribution infrastructure to support continued urban and economic growth.
The construction and related works for the new substations involved 624,340 man-hours. DEWA said all activities were completed in line with strict quality, efficiency and safety standards.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said the expansion is aimed at meeting the growing electricity requirements arising from new residential communities, commercial centres, investment projects and business hubs across Dubai.
He added that DEWA continues to adopt advanced technologies and develop its infrastructure to anticipate future demand and support Dubai’s long-term sustainable economic and urban development.
DEWA has also maintained strong reliability and efficiency levels in its electricity network. The utility recorded an average of only 0.82 customer minutes lost per customer annually, among the lowest levels reported globally. Electricity transmission and distribution losses remain at around 2%, also among the lowest worldwide.
Rashid Bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, said the authority now operates 53 substations at the 33kV level and 47,723 medium-voltage substations operating at 11kV and 6.6kV.
The latest additions are expected to enhance network capacity, improve supply reliability and support Dubai’s expanding residential, commercial and investment landscape. The ongoing infrastructure development reflects DEWA’s focus on building a resilient electricity network capable of meeting the emirate’s future energy needs.
