Indian stock markets closed lower on August 11, 2026, as investors remained cautious amid weak broader market sentiment. The S&P BSE Sensex declined 0.49% to close at 78,154.25, while the Nifty 50 fell 0.54% to settle at 24,450.25. The green energy and energy transition segment also witnessed mixed trading, with selected stocks recording strong gains while several others faced selling pressure.
Amara Raja Energy & Mobility emerged as the strongest performer among the tracked green energy stocks. The company’s shares rose 8.24% on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) to ₹971.65 and gained 7.48% on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) to close at ₹965.10.
Solar manufacturing company Borosil Renewables also attracted buying interest. Its shares advanced 2.53% on the NSE to ₹562.40 and increased 1.50% on the BSE to ₹558.40. Public sector energy major GAIL gained more than 1% on both exchanges, trading around ₹174.30.
Electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech rose 1.71% to ₹1,391.70, while NTPC Green Energy gained 1.24% on the NSE to ₹93.02. Inox Wind and Praj Industries also closed higher, although their gains remained below 1%.
On the other hand, Websol Energy faced significant selling pressure and hit the 5% lower circuit on the NSE, closing at ₹89.77. The stock declined 4.99% on the BSE to ₹89.63. Insolation Energy also remained under pressure, falling 3.40% on the NSE to ₹104.20.
JSW Energy declined 2.60% to ₹562.95, reflecting continued weakness in parts of the energy segment. Several major companies also ended lower as investors booked profits. Reliance Industries fell 0.50% on the NSE to ₹1,320.60, while Adani Green Energy declined 0.77% to ₹1,358.50. Larsen & Toubro slipped 0.80% to ₹4,047.50.
Other stocks, including Indian Energy Exchange, Exide Industries, Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy, and Tata Power, also closed marginally lower.
The mixed performance indicates selective buying in the green energy and energy transition space despite the broader market decline. While companies such as Amara Raja Energy & Mobility and Borosil Renewables attracted strong investor interest, weakness in several large and mid-cap energy stocks reflected cautious trading conditions.
