Indian Green Energy Stocks Trade Mixed As Sensex, Nifty Decline (26 August 2026)

Indian green energy and utility stocks witnessed mixed trading activity today as the broader equity market remained under pressure. The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 both declined 0.24%, closing at 77,472.94 and 24,276.90 points, respectively. Against this backdrop, clean energy stocks showed varied performance across the exchanges.

Juniper Green Energy emerged as the strongest gainer on the BSE, rising 3.51% to ₹268.00. However, the stock faced selling pressure on the NSE, where it declined 1.16% to ₹258.96. Olectra Greentech recorded gains on both exchanges, increasing 2.88% on the BSE to ₹1,329.00 and 2.76% on the NSE to ₹1,327.50.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy also performed positively, gaining nearly 2% to around ₹200.70. Praj Industries registered a smaller increase, rising more than 0.6% to ₹350.10 on the NSE.

Several major energy and infrastructure stocks, however, ended lower. Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) was among the key laggards, falling nearly 1.9% on both exchanges to around ₹121.89. Larsen & Toubro declined more than 1.6% to ₹4,051.90 on the NSE.

Renewable energy majors also experienced selling pressure. Adani Green Energy dropped more than 1.4% to ₹1,308.50, while Tata Power declined 1.38% to ₹365.50. JSW Energy slipped 0.78% to ₹544.10, and NTPC Green Energy closed marginally lower at ₹91.30.

Reliance Industries, which has significant investments in the clean energy sector, fell more than 1% to ₹1,302.50 on the NSE. Battery and energy-storage-linked companies also recorded modest declines, with Exide Industries falling 1.03% to ₹444.15 and Amara Raja Energy & Mobility slipping 0.08% to ₹920.10.

Borosil Renewables delivered mixed results, edging lower on the BSE but gaining 0.21% on the NSE to ₹530.15. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation and GAIL remained largely stable, reflecting limited movement across public-sector energy stocks.

Overall, the session highlighted cautious investor sentiment, with gains concentrated in select clean energy companies while several major renewable and utility stocks faced profit-taking.
