Italian engineering and manufacturing company ErreDue will supply two PEM electrolysers to a “renowned” jewellery company in a new deal worth €500,000 ($557,000).

The two systems, set for delivery early next year, come as part of a plant the Livorno-based firm says was designed “specifically for the jewellery sector.”

The jeweller’s precise use for the hydrogen was not outlined, but it can be used to fuel gas furnaces and torches used for moulding metals.

Francesca Barontini, CEO of ErreDue, said the electrolysers will support the unnamed goldsmith’s “evolution towards increasingly efficient and sustainable production models.”

While jewellery firms remain a niche market for electrolyser manufacturers, high-temperature manufacturing processes more broadly represent an area increasingly looking to green hydrogen for decarbonisation.

German automotive major BMW recently to fuel 11 hydrogen-capable dual-fuel furnaces with hydrogen from Germany’s core hydrogen pipeline network.

Earlier in the year, BrightHy Solutions was a 2MW electrolyser from Chinese electrolyser maker Sungrow Hydrogen for blending with natural gas to fuel existing high-temperature kilns at a cement factory in Buñol, Spain.
