Søby Energipark, a solar park in Norddjurs Municipality, Denmark, is set to generate approximately 53.7 GWh of renewable electricity annually, with four companies securing fixed-price power through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
Developed by Energicenter Nord and balanced and optimised by Reel, the solar park will supply electricity to Polar Seafood, BONE’S RESTAURANTER, Heimstaden Denmark A/S and another participating company under PPAs designed to provide greater long-term price stability.
Through the agreements, the companies will purchase predetermined volumes of electricity from Søby Energipark at fixed prices. The arrangement is intended to reduce their exposure to fluctuations in wholesale electricity prices and provide greater predictability for long-term financial planning.
The solar park’s expected annual generation of 53.7 GWh is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 12,000 households.
Anders Engtoft Meldgaard, CCO, Reel, said the project demonstrates how PPAs can help companies across different industries manage fluctuating electricity costs while improving long-term price stability.
For Heimstaden Denmark, the PPA is expected to support both emissions reduction and greater predictability in energy costs. Sebastian Jagd, Technical Asset Manager, Heimstaden Denmark A/S, said the agreement supports the company’s sustainability objectives while contributing to the responsible operation of its properties.
Søby Energipark Planned as Solar-Plus-Storage Facility
Energicenter Nord plans to add a battery energy storage system (BESS) to Søby Energipark in the longer term, transforming the facility into a hybrid solar-and-storage project.
The planned battery system is expected to improve the park’s flexibility by enabling renewable electricity to be stored and dispatched when demand is higher. According to Energicenter Nord, the addition of storage could increase the value of the solar generation while supporting greater stability in the electricity grid.
Christian Willadsen, Director, Energicenter Nord, said battery storage would be a natural extension of Søby Energipark and would help optimise renewable electricity production and delivery.
