Australian charity Little Sunshine Pledge is planning to deliver 25 donated solar installations across orphanages and education centres in Cambodia and Vietnam during 2026, as part of an initiative aimed at reducing energy costs and supporting organisations working with children.
The latest installation has been completed at Sunrise Cambodia, where a 13.2 kW solar PV system is expected to reduce the centre’s daytime electricity costs by around 30% to 40%. The savings are intended to allow more funds to be directed towards the care and education of the 377 children supported by the organisation.
The Sunrise Cambodia project is the largest solar installation completed by Little Sunshine Pledge to date. The system was designed around the centre’s electricity requirements and forms part of a broader program being implemented with renewable energy companies GoodWe, Clenergy and Yingli Solar.
The charity said electricity is among the largest operating expenses for many children’s centres, with lower power costs potentially allowing organisations to redirect funds towards food, education, healthcare and living conditions.
Unlike a one-time financial donation, the solar installations are designed to generate ongoing savings throughout the operating life of the systems.
Four Solar Installations Completed in July
The Sunrise Cambodia installation follows three other projects completed during July at Transform Cambodia, New Smile of Hope Children’s Association and Huynh De Nhu Nghia in Vietnam.
Together, the four installations provide 29.8 kW of solar capacity to organisations supporting more than 840 children.
Little Sunshine Pledge has completed 15 solar installations since its inception and expects to reach 25 installations across Cambodia and Vietnam by the end of 2026. The expanded program is expected to benefit more than 1,200 children across participating organisations.
Renewable Energy Companies Support Program
GoodWe has supplied the inverters and energy storage equipment that will be deployed across the participating sites. The company has also worked with Little Sunshine Pledge to customise and translate its EcoSmart Kids educational workshop, which will be delivered at participating centres to educate children about climate change, environmental protection and the role of their solar systems.
Clenergy is supporting the program through the supply of solar mounting systems and ongoing technical support.
Meanwhile, Yingli Solar has supplied high-efficiency photovoltaic modules for the installations. The solar manufacturer said its contribution will help provide reliable electricity while reducing energy expenditure at participating schools and children’s organisations.
Little Sunshine Pledge said the 2026 program is intended to provide long-term infrastructure support to children’s homes and schools across Southeast Asia. By reducing electricity costs and improving access to clean power, the charity expects participating organisations to redirect operational savings towards education, healthcare and other services for children.
