The Indian green energy sector witnessed a subdued trading session on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as broader market weakness put pressure on several renewable energy, solar, power, and electric mobility stocks. The benchmark indices ended lower, reflecting cautious sentiment among investors.
The S&P BSE Sensex declined 0.79% to close at around 71,909.70, while the Nifty 50 fell 0.77% to finish near 22,446.00. The decline in the broader market also affected several major companies operating across the clean energy and infrastructure segments.
Despite the overall weakness, some green energy stocks managed to maintain positive momentum. Adani Green Energy emerged among the notable gainers during the session. The stock closed 0.86% higher on the BSE at ₹1,288.00, while it gained 0.39% on the NSE to end at ₹1,283.00.
EKI Energy Services was another strong performer, gaining 2.1% during the trading session. GAIL also recorded a marginal increase, rising 0.06% on the BSE to ₹170.80 and 0.11% on the NSE to ₹170.73. Juniper Green Energy added 0.37% on the NSE and closed at ₹273.30, although it recorded a minor decline on the BSE.
However, selling pressure was more widespread across several solar, renewable equipment and infrastructure companies. Kabra Extrusion recorded the sharpest decline among the listed green energy counters, hitting a 5% lower circuit. It closed at ₹762.15 on the BSE and ₹765.30 on the NSE.
Websol Energy Technologies declined 3.89% on the BSE to ₹67.74, while Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy dropped 3.51% to ₹165.00. The electric mobility segment also faced pressure, with Olectra Greentech falling 3.36% to ₹1,096.00.
Among major power companies, Tata Power declined more than 2.2% to ₹351.00. NTPC Green Energy also remained under pressure, falling 2.54% on the NSE to ₹91.00.
The weakness extended beyond the renewable energy sector, with major market heavyweights such as Reliance Industries and Larsen & Toubro also declining by more than 1.4% to 1.8%.
Overall, the October 1 session reflected cautious investor participation and broad-based selling across several sectors. While a few green energy stocks continued to attract buying interest, most renewable and clean-energy counters remained under pressure as the broader market consolidated.
