Industrial gas major Nippon Sanso Holdings has commissioned a new electronics-materials manufacturing plant in South Korea.

The plant, which began operations in September 2026, adds production capacity for semiconductor specialty gases, including diborane, as demand from South Korea’s chip industry continues to grow. It has also been built with infrastructure designed to support future expansion.

Nippon Sanso Matheson Korea (NSMK) will operate the plant in Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, marketing the company’s second manufacturing site in the city alongside its existing Eumbong plant.

According to Nippon Sanso, the two sites will operate as an integrated production system, strengthening its ability to manufacture and supply specialty gases and other electronic materials to semiconductor manufacturers in South Korea.

The investment comes as semiconductor manufacturers continue to expand production and demand for electronic materials rises across Asia.

Nippon Sanso said it has been strengthening its electronic-materials manufacturing and supply network in the region in response.

According to market research, Asia-Pacific accounted for around 60.9% of global semiconductor sales in 2025, with the regional market expected to reach about $467.15bn in 2026.
