SPARC Signs Three-Year Power Supply Deal for 3.82 MWp Bulacan Solar Plant In Philippines

SPARC-Solar Powered Agri-Rural Communities Corp., a subsidiary of NexGen Energy Corp., has signed a three-year power supply agreement with Marubeni Philippines Energy Corp. Under the agreement, SPARC will supply all the clean electricity generated from its 3.82-megawatt-peak (MWp) solar power plant in San Rafael, Bulacan, Philippines. The contract also includes the associated Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), providing environmental attributes linked to the renewable electricity.

The agreement includes an option for a further three-year extension, subject to mutual agreement between the two companies. It represents SPARC’s first power supply contract with a retail electricity supplier licensed by the Energy Regulatory Commission and its first agreement with a Japanese-affiliated off-taker.

Marubeni Philippines Energy is the local energy arm of Japan-based Marubeni Corp., which has investments across power generation, transmission, and energy infrastructure in Asia and other international markets.

Electricity supplied under the agreement will come specifically from SPARC’s solar facility in Bulacan. The company currently operates three solar farms across Luzon, located in Bulacan, Zambales, and Bataan. Together, these facilities have a total installed capacity of around 13.86 MWp.

SPARC generated approximately PHP 116 million in revenue from electricity sales in 2024 as it continued to expand its renewable energy operations. The company is also planning an additional 8 MW to 10 MW solar farm in Palauig, Zambales, adjacent to its existing solar facility in the province.

The inclusion of RECs in the agreement reflects the growing role of environmental attributes in the Philippine electricity market. RECs allow renewable electricity generation to be accompanied by certificates that verify its renewable origin.

The new agreement is expected to expand SPARC’s customer base and strengthen its participation in the Philippine clean energy market. It also provides a new supply arrangement for Marubeni Philippines Energy while supporting the country’s broader transition toward renewable electricity.
