Azerbaijan has inaugurated the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant, with President Ilham Aliyev attending the ceremony. Developed by Universal Energy, the project is equipped with SG320HX-20 string inverters supplied by Sungrow to support solar power generation in the country.
According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, the solar plant is expected to generate approximately 200 million kWh of electricity annually. It is also projected to save around 45 million cubic metres of natural gas and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 97,000 tonnes each year.
The project is expected to contribute to Azerbaijan’s efforts to diversify its energy mix, increase renewable electricity generation and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources.
Azerbaijan is advancing its renewable energy sector through regulatory reforms and investments from domestic and international partners. The Ministry of Energy estimates the country’s economically viable solar energy potential at 23 GW, while plans are in place to implement more than 2 GW of green energy projects by 2027.
The Gobustan Solar Power Plant adds to the country’s operational solar generation capacity as Azerbaijan works to develop its renewable energy resources.
The project also builds on Sungrow’s collaboration with Universal Energy across Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. Sungrow’s inverter solutions have been deployed in photovoltaic projects with a combined capacity of 330 MW in Azerbaijan, strengthening the company’s presence in the country’s solar market.
Sungrow said it would continue working with its partners to support renewable energy deployment and Azerbaijan’s energy transition.
