Zetwerk Completes US Power Transformer Installation Amid Rising Grid Demand

Zetwerk Manufacturing Businesses Ltd. and its US subsidiary Unimacts have completed the installation of a power transformer manufactured by Zetwerk in North Carolina, marking a milestone in the company’s expansion into the US power infrastructure market. The development comes amid rising electricity demand from artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, data centres and efforts to modernise the country’s ageing power grid.

Zetwerk, a technology-led manufacturing company operating across energy, precision manufacturing and capital goods, is expanding its energy business to address growing demand for critical electrical equipment. The company’s Energy vertical recorded revenue of ₹6,507.57 crore in FY2026, registering year-on-year growth of 86.90%. The segment accounted for 69.42% of Zetwerk’s manufacturing revenue during the financial year.

The US power sector is facing increasing pressure to expand generation and transmission infrastructure as data centres and AI-related investments drive electricity consumption. However, the availability of power transformers remains a major challenge for utilities, developers and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies. Manufacturing lead times for power transformers in the US have averaged between 36 and 42 months, delaying projects that depend on timely equipment deliveries.

Zetwerk said its manufacturing model, which coordinates suppliers across countries and integrates multiple stages of production, enables it to reduce delivery timelines. The company reported US power transformer lead times of 12 to 15 months, compared with industry averages of 36 to 42 months in the US and 30 to 36 months in India during FY2026.

During FY2026, Zetwerk received power transformer orders worth ₹2,032.25 crore, reflecting demand for equipment required to strengthen electricity networks and support infrastructure expansion.

Srinath Ramakkrushnan, executive director and chief operating officer of Zetwerk, said electricity demand is increasing the need for reliable access to critical power equipment. He noted that transformer supply constraints have delayed projects and explained that Zetwerk and Unimacts are coordinating production across countries to improve equipment availability and support the expansion of the US power grid.

Through its vertically integrated manufacturing capabilities, Unimacts offers transformer products across several categories, including medium-voltage pad-mounted, dry-type and inverter-duty units. Its portfolio also includes power transformers rated up to 500 MVA and 765 kV, manufactured to IEEE C57 standards.

The company said its manufacturing approach covers key components such as cold-rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) steel laminations, transformer cores, core and coil assemblies, and tanks. Control over these components is intended to improve quality management and delivery predictability, supported by strategic relationships with original equipment manufacturers.

Zetwerk also highlighted its international operations, reporting revenue of ₹2,775.36 crore from international markets in FY2026. Its broader manufacturing business generated revenue of approximately ₹15,913.32 crore and operated 26 facilities, while Unimacts had seven facilities in the US.

Unimacts has previously supplied structural components, including piles and torque tubes, for utility-scale solar projects across the US. With its entry into transformer installations, Zetwerk is extending its energy infrastructure activities beyond solar manufacturing components into equipment essential for electricity transmission and distribution.
