Renewable America, a leading provider of distributed energy resources, small utility-scale solar+storage, and community microgrids in California, has successfully achieved commercial operation for its West Tambo Clean Power II (WEST-II) site. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s mission to expand access to clean, renewable energy in local communities. The WEST-II project spans 8.5 acres in Livingston, California, and has a capacity of 2.93 megawatts (MWdc). Situated in a community designated as both disadvantaged (DAC) and low-income (LIC), the project will deliver renewable energy to San Jose, California.

WEST-II is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 800 homes annually while offsetting around 48,000 tons of CO2 emissions over its lifetime, contributing to California’s clean energy goals and sustainability efforts. A key component of WEST-II’s development was its commitment to supporting the local workforce. Renewable America collaborated with local union labor halls to ensure job opportunities for workers in the region, particularly those enrolled in apprenticeship training programs. This initiative helped create high-quality employment opportunities while fostering skill development in the clean energy sector.

Additionally, the project received a 20% Investment Tax Credit (ITC) under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Low-Income Communities Bonus Credit Program. This recognition was awarded due to WEST-II’s commitment to providing clean energy to low-income households, further reinforcing Renewable America’s dedication to equitable energy distribution. Renewable America led the development of WEST-II from start to finish, managing every aspect in-house. The company’s expertise covered parcel scouting, lease negotiations, engineering, permitting, design, and origination.

With its licensed C-10 and general B construction team performing a significant portion of the work, Renewable America ensured greater efficiency, quality control, and seamless coordination throughout all phases of development and construction. With WEST-II now fully operational, Renewable America continues to expand its portfolio of sustainable energy projects, driving California toward a cleaner and more resilient energy future.
