Industrial gas major Air Liquide has entered into an agreement with Texas-headquartered specialty chemical producer Indovinya for the supply of renewable oxygen for ethylene oxide production.
The renewable oxygen offtake, duration, and terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but will help reduce some products’ carbon footprint by up to 15%.
Indovinya’s agreement with Air Liquide aligns with its goal to advance low-carbon solutions to decrease the intensity of its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30% by 2030, compared to a 2020 baseline, and to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
John Smith, Chief Delivery Officer at Indovinya, said, “The use of renewable oxygen in production allows us to meaningfully lower emissions from essential raw materials.”
Ethylene oxide is a chemical intermediate used in antifreeze, detergents, fiber, and bottle manufacturing and medical equipment sterilisation processes.
It is produced through the direct oxidation of ethylene over a silver-based catalyst under controlled temperature and pressure conditions.
Indovinya, a division of global sustainable chemical company Indorama Ventures, believes itself to be the largest producer of ethylene oxide in North and South America, and the second largest ethoxylation company globally.
In 2025, Indovinya generated 20.5% of its revenue from sustainable products, passing its 15% benchmark.
More widely, Indovinya’s specialty chemical and surfactant solutions have applications in home and personal care product manufacturing, agriculture, paint formulation, and the energy and resources sector.
