Industrial gas major Air Liquide expects to start up a new air separation unit (ASU) at its existing Fairfield production facility in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) in 2028.
The confirmation follows the company with the NSW government for a A$45m ($32.3m) expansion at its Fairfield production facility, centred on building and operating the new ASU.
Air Liquide’s existing manufacturing facility at the site currently relies on imported air gas liquid products for operation, whereas the proposed upgraded plant will have the capacity to process 15,000 Nm³/h of air to produce liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen on-site.
The ASU and its related infrastructure would therefore increase Air Liquide’s local liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen production capacity to support industrial and medical gases supply chain reliability.
It will support the healthcare and medical, food and beverage, mining and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Air Liquide’s proposal also includes storage for 245m³ of liquid oxygen, 1,225m³ of liquid nitrogen, as well as the installation of associated analyser and control systems.
Tim Kehoe, Managing Director of Air Liquide Pacific, said, “Expanding our air gas capacity demonstrates Air Liquide’s long-term commitment to fueling the growth of Australian industries… [and] enhancing our supply chain resilience.”
