India-based helium and specialty gas supplier AirLife Gases has signed an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in US-based helium gathering, processing, and liquefaction company GNG, expanding its North American footprint.
The acquisition includes GNG’s helium processing plant, gas gathering pipeline network, and high-purity helium liquefaction facility.
GNG’s assets have previously operated commercially and will now undergo a four-to-six-month recommissioning programme before returning to production.
According to AirLife, recommissioning the existing infrastructure offers a significantly faster route to commercial production than developing a new greenfield helium facility.
Once operational, the plant is expected to provide AirLife with an independent North American source of liquid helium, strengthening supply security for its customers.
Kiran Karnawat, CEO of AirLife, said the transaction supports the company’s goal of becoming a fully integrated helium company.
“By combining…gathering systems, processing assets, liquefaction infrastructure, exclusive commercialisation rights, our recently acquired upstream helium resources, and AirLife’s global distribution platform, we are creating a differentiated helium platform,” he said.
The deal also gives AirLife long-term marketing and commercialisation rights for helium produced through GNG’s infrastructure.
GNG has long-term gas gathering and processing agreements with multiple independent producers connected to its facilities via an existing pipeline network.
