US semiconductor specialist Avant Technology has secured a $4.83m grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF) to expand its semiconductor manufacturing site in Pharr, South Texas.
Avant manufactures semiconductor assemblies for memory storage, known as solid-state drives (SSDs) and memory modules.
The funding will be used to expand production of advanced memory assemblies to support the automotive and industrial sectors.
The Pharr site has received over $20m in capital investment to date.
Tim Peddecord, Avant Technology CEO and President, said, “This support advances our cutting-edge memory technology… and solidifies Texas as the premier hub for semiconductor innovation and growth.”
TSIF is administered by the Texas CHIPS Office. The grant programme was established in June 2023, following the Texas CHIPS Act legislation, and has since allocated $948m to support semiconductor research, manufacturing, and design in Texas.
The was introduced to strengthen US semiconductor manufacturing and increase global competitiveness in the sector.
The CHIPS Act $39bn for domestic semiconductor production and $11bn for related research and development.
This year, US President Donald Trump said the CHIPS Act funding should be .
