Bluebird Solar, one of India’s fastest-growing manufacturers of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, has announced a significant expansion of its manufacturing capacity. The company is set to increase its production from 1.2 gigawatts (GW) to 2.5 GW at its advanced facility located in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. This expanded capacity is expected to become fully operational by October 2025.

This move is part of Bluebird Solar’s long-term growth strategy aimed at addressing the rising demand for solar energy in India. The demand is being driven by the country’s accelerated push towards clean and renewable energy, supported by several flagship government initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, PM-KUSUM scheme for solarizing agriculture, and the Atmanirbhar Bharat program, which encourages domestic manufacturing and self-reliance.

Mr. Akshay Mittal, Director, Bluebird Solar, stated, “Our expansion to 2.5 GW is not just about increasing capacity — it’s about scaling impact. This growth reinforces our commitment to support India’s clean energy transition by delivering world-class solar modules manufactured right here in India. The expanded facility will incorporate advanced AI automation, enhanced quality control systems, and energy-efficient practices to meet the evolving demands of utility-scale and rooftop solar projects. It’s a step forward in strengthening India’s renewable manufacturing ecosystem and fulfilling the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It will be yet another milestone in our mission to power a cleaner, greener, and energy-secure future for the nation.”

The upgraded facility will incorporate fully automated manufacturing lines and advanced quality control systems. These enhancements will enable the production of high-performance solar PV modules that meet stringent national and international standards. The company will continue to produce modules that are ALMM (Approved List of Models and Manufacturers), BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) certified—ensuring reliability and compliance for a wide range of applications, including government-subsidized projects and utility-scale installations.

Beyond supporting the energy transition, the expansion will also have a positive impact on employment in the region. Bluebird Solar anticipates generating over 500 new direct and indirect jobs through this initiative. This contributes not only to the local economy but also aligns with India’s broader goal of creating sustainable livelihoods within the clean energy sector and advancing infrastructure development.
