A new biomethane plant in Northamptonshire has begun supplying renewable gas into Cadent’s UK network.

Alongside renewable gas production the Wormslade facility, developed by Vida bioenergy, will generate around 70,000 tonnes of digestate each year, providing organic fertiliser for agriculture and supporting circular farming practices.

The site, which is near Market Harborough, is designed to process around 46,000 tonnes of feedstock each year and is expected to produce approximately 68GWh of biomethane annually.

The connection is the 17th biomethane plant on Cadent’s East Midlands Network and 46th across Cadent’s wider UK operations.

Earlier this year, Cadent announced that 38 applications to build new or expanded during the first assessment window under its new cost-sharing and clustering model.

The UK will need to by 2050 if it is to meet projected demand under future net zero scenarios, according to a briefing from the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology.
