Green Energy Stocks Deliver Mixed Performance As Sensex Falls 0.58% And Nifty Ends Lower (07 August 2026)

Indian equity markets ended lower on August 7, 2026, as weak investor sentiment weighed on benchmark indices and kept overall market activity subdued. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.58% to close at 78,499.17, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.32% to settle at 24,557.00. Despite the broader market weakness, stocks from the green energy, power, battery, and renewable energy sectors delivered a mixed performance, with gains in battery and solar manufacturing companies offset by losses in gas, wind, and renewable engineering firms.

Among the top performers, Exide Industries emerged as the biggest gainer in the clean energy segment. The battery manufacturer rose 3.50% on the BSE to close at Rs 490.35 and gained 3.58% on the NSE to end at Rs 491.25. Investors also showed strong interest in solar module manufacturer Websol Energy, which climbed 1.58% on the BSE to Rs 95.12 and advanced 4.00% on the NSE to Rs 97.35.

Bio-energy company Praj Industries also traded higher during the session. Its shares gained 1.22% on the BSE to close at Rs 323.40 and rose 1.69% on the NSE to Rs 325.05. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility also ended in positive territory, adding 0.64% on the BSE to finish at Rs 932.15.

Some of the larger companies in the energy sector also remained resilient despite the weak market. Reliance Industries recorded modest gains, rising 0.45% on the BSE to Rs 1,331.00 and 0.30% on the NSE to Rs 1,329.00. Tata Power posted gains of up to 0.86%, while NTPC Green Energy Ltd also edged higher by 0.21%, reflecting continued investor confidence in select power and renewable energy businesses.

On the losing side, Kabra Extrusion was the worst-performing stock in the sector, falling nearly 5%. Its shares dropped 4.92% on the BSE to Rs 453.65 and 4.93% on the NSE to Rs 454.05. GAIL also witnessed heavy selling pressure, declining 2.27% on the BSE to Rs 172.00 and 2.46% on the NSE to Rs 172.06.

Solar glass manufacturer Borosil Renewables slipped more than 1.28% to close near Rs 549. Insolation Energy declined 1.47%, while electric bus maker Olectra Greentech lost 1.26%. Wind energy equipment manufacturer Inox Wind fell 1.11%, and Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy dropped nearly 1%. Adani Green Energy also ended marginally lower, while Indian Energy Exchange, Larsen & Toubro, and Indian Oil Corporation closed with modest losses, reflecting the cautious mood across the broader clean energy and infrastructure sectors.
