Green Energy Stocks Show Mixed Performance As Broader Indian Markets End Lower (04 August 2026)

Green energy stocks delivered a mixed performance on August 4, 2026, with buying interest in select companies offset by declines in several major players, even as the broader Indian stock market ended the day in negative territory. Exide Industries emerged as the top performer among key green energy stocks, registering the strongest gains across both the BSE and NSE.

Exide Industries climbed 3.55% on the BSE to close at ₹460.00, while its shares advanced 3.33% on the NSE to settle at ₹459.50. The strong performance made it the biggest gainer in the renewable and clean energy segment during the trading session.

Praj Industries also recorded healthy gains, rising 1.24% on the BSE to ₹319.00 and 1.36% on the NSE to ₹319.35. Indian Energy Exchange posted positive movement as well, with its stock increasing 1.26% on the BSE to ₹128.95 and 0.78% on the NSE to ₹129.00. Borosil Renewables continued its upward trend with modest gains, adding 0.58% on the BSE to ₹557.70 and 0.88% on the NSE to ₹558.80.

JSW Energy witnessed mixed trading across exchanges. The stock gained 1.45% on the BSE to close at ₹567.00 but slipped 0.35% on the NSE, ending at the same price. GAIL also remained in positive territory, rising 0.69% on the BSE to ₹175.05 and 0.75% on the NSE to ₹175.60.

On the losing side, Reliance Industries was among the biggest drags in the sector. The stock declined 1.22% on the BSE to ₹1,293.00 and dropped a steeper 2.15% on the NSE to ₹1,290.60. Adani Green Energy also ended lower, falling 0.63% on the BSE to ₹1,385.00 and 0.79% on the NSE to ₹1,384.00.

Amara Raja Energy & Mobility recorded losses of more than 1% on both exchanges, closing at ₹922.60 on the BSE and ₹922.75 on the NSE. Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy also remained under pressure, slipping 0.96% on the BSE to ₹206.35 and 1.16% on the NSE to ₹206.00. Indian Oil Corporation edged lower, declining 0.11% on the BSE to ₹142.70 and 1.11% on the NSE to ₹142.11. Tata Power also closed marginally lower, falling 0.13% on the BSE and 0.26% on the NSE to finish at ₹381.00 on both exchanges.

The mixed performance of green energy stocks came amid weakness in the broader equity market. The S&P BSE Sensex fell 0.27% to close at 78,428.95, while the Nifty 50 declined 1.25% to end the session at 24,463.45, reflecting cautious investor sentiment despite gains in select renewable energy companies.
