Green Energy Stocks Show Mixed Trends As Indian Markets Remain Range-Bound On September 17

Indian equity markets remained largely range-bound on September 17, 2026, with the benchmark indices showing limited movement. The S&P BSE Sensex closed at 74,314.59, declining marginally by 0.03%, while the NIFTY 50 ended at 23,294.35, gaining 0.33%. Against this subdued market backdrop, green energy and power stocks recorded mixed performance, with buying concentrated in select established utilities and industrial companies.

Tata Power emerged as one of the strongest performers in the sector. The stock gained 2.19% on the NSE to close at ₹368.30, leading the major power and renewable energy gainers. Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) also attracted buying interest, rising 1.83% on the BSE to ₹113.80 and 1.21% on the NSE to ₹113.36.

Other energy and mobility companies also advanced during the session. Olectra Greentech increased 1.70% on the NSE to ₹1,187.80, while JSW Energy gained 1.45% to ₹512.00. Larsen & Toubro rose 1.24% to ₹3,855.00. Praj Industries and Amara Raja Energy & Mobility also ended higher, with gains ranging between 0.6% and 1.2%.

Battery and energy infrastructure companies recorded modest gains. Exide Industries climbed 0.82% on the NSE to ₹418.90, while GAIL gained 0.85% to ₹172.10.

However, several renewable energy stocks faced selling pressure. Juniper Green Energy was among the biggest decliners, falling 2.39% on the BSE to ₹255.55 and 1.02% on the NSE to ₹261.80. Websol Energy System declined 1.06% on the BSE to ₹71.54. Indian Oil Corporation also slipped 0.53% on the NSE to ₹134.04.

Large-cap energy stocks remained relatively stable. Adani Green Energy traded near ₹1,270 with negligible movement, while Reliance Industries gained 0.44% on the NSE to ₹1,245.50. NTPC Green Energy edged up 0.06% to ₹87.64. Borosil Renewables and Inox Wind posted modest gains of less than 1%.

Overall, the session reflected selective buying in established power and infrastructure companies, while some renewable energy stocks experienced profit-taking and limited investor interest.
