Green Energy Stocks Under Pressure As Indian Markets End Lower On August 31

The Indian stock market ended lower on August 31, 2026, with benchmark indices coming under selling pressure amid volatility across the green energy, power and clean technology sectors.

The S&P BSE Sensex declined 0.40% to close at 76,957.27, while the Nifty 50 fell 0.52% to settle at 24,050.25. The weak market sentiment was also reflected in several renewable energy and power stocks, although a few counters managed to gain during the session.

Juniper Green Energy emerged as the strongest performer among the tracked clean energy stocks. Its shares gained 2.35% on the BSE to close at ₹264.00, while the NSE-listed shares rose 1.54% to ₹258.23.

State-owned gas utility GAIL also remained positive, increasing 1.17% on the BSE to ₹173.00 and 0.71% on the NSE to ₹172.32. Borosil Renewables edged up 0.26% on the BSE to ₹503.90 and 0.24% on the NSE to ₹503.45.

Reliance Industries was largely stable, gaining 0.05% on the BSE to ₹1,285.00. On the NSE, the stock advanced 0.61% to ₹1,294.90.

However, several major renewable energy stocks faced significant selling pressure. Adani Green Energy recorded the steepest decline among the key stocks tracked, falling 6.93% on the BSE to ₹1,217.95 and 3.67% on the NSE to ₹1,262.90.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy also declined sharply, losing 3.40% on the BSE to ₹189.00 and 3.03% on the NSE to ₹189.45.

Other clean energy and technology companies also ended lower. Amara Raja Energy & Mobility fell 2.94% to ₹893.70, while Olectra Greentech declined 2.62% to ₹1,280.00. Inox Wind dropped 2.02% to ₹70.31, and Websol Energy slipped 1.91% to ₹76.45.

Overall, the session highlighted continued stock-specific volatility across India’s renewable energy ecosystem, with profit-booking outweighing selective buying.
