India And Malawi Strengthen Energy Cooperation At Bharat Electricity Summit 2026

India and Malawi have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the power and energy sector during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi. The meeting took place between Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, and Jean Mathanga, Minister of Energy and Mining of Malawi.

Both leaders highlighted the strong and friendly relations between India and Malawi, emphasizing the importance of deeper engagement in the energy sector as part of their broader development partnership. The discussion focused on key areas such as renewable energy development, improving electricity access, power sector planning, and capacity building.

The ministers also exchanged insights into the current developments in their respective energy sectors and identified opportunities for collaboration that could benefit both nations. A significant point of discussion was Malawi’s participation in the International Solar Alliance, an initiative launched by India and France in 2015 to promote solar energy deployment worldwide.

Both sides expressed a strong interest in exploring further cooperation in areas of mutual importance and agreed to continue engagement through institutional and technical exchanges. The meeting was conducted in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, reflecting the shared commitment of both countries to expand bilateral ties and work together toward sustainable energy development.

This dialogue marks another step forward in India’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships in the clean energy sector.
