Indian equity markets came under selling pressure on September 9, 2026, with major benchmark indices ending the session in negative territory. The S&P BSE Sensex declined by more than 1% to close at around 74,764, while the Nifty 50 slipped 0.73% to finish near 23,462. The weak market sentiment also affected several companies operating across the renewable energy and clean technology sectors, although stock-specific buying helped some counters post gains.
Websol Energy emerged as the strongest performer among the tracked green energy stocks. The photovoltaic cell manufacturer gained nearly 5%, trading around ₹78.69 on the BSE and ₹78.25 on the NSE. Inox Wind also remained positive, rising nearly 2% and crossing the ₹77 level.
Other major renewable energy companies recorded moderate gains. Adani Green Energy advanced more than 1.5% on both exchanges to close at approximately ₹1,314. JSW Energy gained nearly 1.9%, reaching around ₹534. Tata Power and Indian Energy Exchange also managed to maintain modest gains despite the broader market decline.
However, several clean energy stocks faced significant selling pressure. Praj Industries was among the major laggards, declining more than 3.3% to around ₹326.50. Insolation Energy also fell over 2.5% to nearly ₹90 as investors booked profits in the solar equipment segment.
Energy storage companies were similarly affected. Exide Industries declined more than 1.4% to approximately ₹411, while Amara Raja Energy & Mobility eased nearly 0.8% to close around ₹831.
Large companies with significant exposure to India’s energy transition also reflected the overall market weakness. Larsen & Toubro declined toward ₹3,925, while Reliance Industries slipped around 0.7% to approximately ₹1,285. Renewable energy EPC company Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy fell more than 1% to around ₹182. NTPC Green Energy also recorded a marginal decline, closing slightly above ₹88.
The session highlighted cautious investor sentiment across the equity market. While selective buying supported solar and wind energy stocks, profit-taking in bioenergy and battery-related companies kept the broader clean energy segment mixed.
