India’s Green Energy Push Takes the Spotlight at ICC’s 13th Green Energy Summit

The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) recently hosted the 13th Green Energy Summit, themed “Green Energy Transition: India’s Moment of Opportunity”. The event focused on important topics like nuclear energy, solar equipment manufacturing, battery storage solutions, and coal gasification. A key highlight was the launch of a Knowledge Paper titled “Advancing Sustainable Energy Transition – Pathway for Net-Zero Future in India”, which outlined strategies to accelerate India’s shift to green energy.

The Knowledge Paper discusses how India can transition from fossil fuels to a net-zero economy by 2070. It highlights the role of technology, policies, and innovative financing models in supporting this transformation. Key areas covered include clean energy solutions to decarbonize the power grid, support for Green Hydrogen, and the need for strategic funding, clear policies, and adoption of technologies like Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) and long-duration storage.

The paper also provides recommendations, such as adding 40-50 GW of renewable energy each year, strengthening local manufacturing, temporarily relaxing trade barriers on imported solar cells and modules, expanding hydro and nuclear projects, and streamlining land acquisition processes for project development. The summit brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts, including Mr. Anil Razdan (Summit Chairman and Chair, ICC National Expert Committee on Energy), and Mr. Kush Singh (Co-Chair, ICC National Expert Committee on Energy, and Head-Power, RPSG Group). They shared insights on India’s roadmap to a greener future.

Mr. Anil Razdan, ICC National Expert Committee on Energy, Former Secretary, Power, GOI, and Summit Chairman and Chair, “If there are 12 people sitting or standing in a public space, 10 of them are on their mobiles or some electronic device and each one of them needs electricity. So electricity has become really a part of our lives. It has to be friendly to the consumer. It has to be accessible, it has to be available in much larger quantities than we have ever experienced because mostly it was in static locations. Today, we want it more actual. When we talk of green energy, we need to talk of all three topics that we discussed today, i.e, solar, wind, nuclear as well as gasification.”

Setting the context for the day’s discussions, Co-Chair of ICC National Expert Committee on Energy, Head-Power, RPSG Group, Mr Kush Singh, mentioned, “The Government today is focused on not only just vanilla green to green transition. They are focused on becoming self-sufficient. They are focused towards maximizing the utilization of internal resources and synchronizing everybody together towards this mission.”

The event concluded with the 5th Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Awards, recognizing excellence in renewable energy. Winners included Tata Capital Ltd, Berger Paints India, and Adani Green Energy Limited. The awards were presented by Dr. Anil Kumar Jain (Chairperson, PNGRB), Ms. Neerja Mathur (Former Chairperson, CEA), and Dr. Ashvini Kumar (Former MD, SECI). The summit reaffirmed India’s commitment to sustainable energy and set the stage for actionable steps toward a cleaner future.
