The industrial gases industry must step up its work on semiconductor sustainability to avoid government intervention and improve accountability, according to industry experts.
Speaking at the recent gasworld webinar on , Dr Guy Davies, Chief Business Development Officer at DAS Environmental Experts, said the key challenges for the industry are reducing gas usage, improving the way gases are used on every wafer, and abating all residual gas emissions.
He said sustainability has become a board-level priority for semiconductor manufacturers, with hyperscale technology companies increasingly pushing suppliers to reduce emissions and improve the environmental footprint of chip production.
“If I’m honest I think AI is making the current situation worse, and we need to accelerate a lot of the activities we’re doing,” he said.
