Cryogenic technology specialist INOX India (INOXCVA) has launched a simulated liquid oxygen (LOX) storage tank for India’s indigenous Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) system.
Designed, manufactured, and filled at INOXCVA’s Kalol facility, the tank will now undergo factory acceptance testing (FAT).
Under development by India’s Naval Material Research Laboratory (NMRL), AIP systems use stored LOX to help submarines operate underwater for longer time periods without surfacing.
The technology was flagged off for FAT by Dr Suman Roy Choudhury, Director at the NMRL, and Deepak Acharya, CEO at INOXCVA.
“[This] represents a critical advancement in enhancing the endurance and stealth of our submarines, and we are honoured to support it with our specialised cryogenic expertise,” he said.
“The simulated LOX module marks a proud milestone for INOXCVA and a meaningful contribution to India’s strategic defence capabilities,” he adds.
