Leader Energy Breaks Ground on 99 MWac LSE III Solar Project in Malaysia

Leader Energy Group Berhad has commenced construction of its 99 MWac Leader Solar Energy III (LSE III) project in Mukim Kuala Ketil, Baling, Kedah, marking another milestone in the company’s renewable energy expansion in Malaysia. The groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Founder Tan Sri Dato’ Seri H’ng Bok San, Executive Deputy Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Sean H’ng, and Non-Independent Non-Executive Director Datin Seri Jessica H’ng.

The utility-scale solar project was awarded under Malaysia’s Large-Scale Solar 5+ (LSS5+) Programme and will be developed by Leader Energy’s wholly owned subsidiary, Leader Solar Energy III Sdn. Bhd. Scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2027, the project is expected to add renewable energy capacity to Malaysia’s national grid while supporting the country’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

LSE III builds on Leader Energy’s existing solar portfolio in Kedah, where the company previously developed the 38 MWp LSE and 29.4 MWp LSE II projects under Malaysia’s inaugural Large-Scale Solar (LSS) programme in 2018 and 2019. The company said these projects underscore its experience in developing, constructing, owning, and operating utility-scale solar assets.

Commenting on the development, Dato’ Sean H’ng, Executive Deputy Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Leader Energy, said the groundbreaking marks a significant milestone as the company transitions the project from planning to construction. He added that the company remains focused on delivering the project safely, efficiently, and on schedule while advancing its mission of supporting Asia’s energy transition through renewable energy infrastructure.

Leader Energy said the project forms part of its broader strategy to expand renewable energy generation, energy storage, and power transmission infrastructure across Asia. With more than three decades of experience in the power sector, the company aims to strengthen regional energy security, accelerate decarbonisation, and support the region’s long-term energy transition.
