Levanta Renewables Begins Construction of 166 MWp Solar-BESS Project in Philippines

Levanta Renewables has commenced construction of its 166 MWp Barotac Viejo Solar Power Project in Iloilo, Philippines. The ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) facility will be integrated with an 80 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in the second quarter of 2027.

The project is being developed through Levanta Renewables’ project company, Magallanes Solar Energy Corp. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate approximately 261 GWh of electricity annually, enough to supply around 136,000 households. The project is also expected to avoid approximately 200,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from the Philippines Department of Energy, national and local government agencies, project partners and community stakeholders. The ceremony marked the formal commencement of construction of the solar and battery storage project.

Levanta Renewables CEO Pramod Singh said the company’s focus during construction would be on delivering the project safely and on schedule while creating long-term value for the local communities.

The Department of Energy said the project reflects continued momentum in renewable energy development in the Philippines and highlighted the role of utility-scale solar combined with battery storage in strengthening energy security and grid reliability.

The project is part of Levanta Renewables’ broader renewable energy portfolio in Southeast Asia. The company is headquartered in Singapore and is developing utility-scale solar, wind and energy storage projects across Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia.
