Masdar Hosts High-Level Energy Forum in Madrid to Drive European Growth

Masdar, a global leader in clean energy, hosted a high-level business forum in Madrid to accelerate strategic energy partnerships across Europe and advance its growth agenda in the Iberian Peninsula.

Led by Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Chairman of Masdar, the event convened more than 200 senior stakeholders, including representatives from Spanish and Portuguese government agencies, regulatory bodies, utilities, institutional investors, technology providers, and offtakers. The discussion focused on fast-tracking the region’s energy transition and positioning Spain as a key hub in Masdar’s European operations.

A focal point of Masdar’s expansion in Europe is the US $1.4 billion acquisition of Saeta, a leading renewable energy operator in Spain and Portugal. Dr. Al Jaber visited Saeta’s Madrid headquarters to mark its full integration into Masdar, engage with executive leadership and employees, and outline an ambitious roadmap for accelerated growth and market impact.

Masdar’s broader European investment portfolio continues to expand:

  • A €3.2 billion acquisition of TERNA ENERGY in Greece
  • A €1.7 billion strategic partnership with Endesa in Spain, involving a 49.99% stake in a 2.5GW portfolio—one of the country’s largest clean-energy deals
