Masdar-Led Consortium Signs EPC Contract for Oman’s First Utility-Scale Solar and Battery Storage Project

The Ibri III Independent Power Project, Oman’s first utility-scale solar and battery storage initiative, has reached a major milestone with the signing of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. The contract is led by China Power Engineering Consulting Group International Engineering Co. (CPECC).

The Masdar-led consortium developing the project will combine a 500 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 33,000 homes and avoid more than 500,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

The project underscores Oman’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and integrating solar and storage solutions to support a sustainable and low-carbon energy future.
