Messer Americas will invest $280m in a new air separation unit (ASU) complex in McGregor, Texas, to meet growing demand for industrial gases.
This marks the company’s in the city of McGregor. In February 2022, Messer announced it would invest around $50m in a solar-powered ASU.
The new ASU complex is expected to be completed in 2027.
Elena Skvortsova, President and CEO of Messer Americas, said, “This new ASU will [support] the growth of key local industries – including aerospace, healthcare, metals, chemicals, semiconductor, food and beverage.”
The new ASU complex is expected to complement Messer’s existing local operations and support its regional supply chain.
McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, added, “Messer’s continued growth not only strengthens our local economy but also reinforces Central Texas as a hub for innovation and advanced manufacturing.”
Across the US, gasworld Intelligence estimates total oxygen, nitrogen and argon market demand reaches 1.02 million tonnes per day.
In February of this year, Messer a new ASU at Aurubis AG’s metal recycling facility in Lünen, Germany, designed to produce up to 210 tonnes of oxygen and 16 tonnes of nitrogen per day.
