Newly appointed will confront the challenges and opportunities presented by transformational technologies while developing solutions that improve the service it provides to members.
Returning to the BCGA for a second time as President, the hydrogen specialist (Founder and Independent Consultant at Hydrogen Consult) aims will strive to raise the industry’s profile and represent members’ interests on key issues.
In an age of AI and digital, the technological changes facing the industry continue to be considerable – certainly on a different level compared with his first tenure between 2008 and 2010. But in many ways its technical expertise and promotional drive remain integral.
“The BCGA is a strong voice for the compressed gases industry, providing advice and guidance to governing bodies and regulators as well as its own members and the wider public,” he said.
“The Technical Sub Committees are the backbone of the association, offering safe practice information and technical support as well as ensuring BCGA has the pool of expertise needed to represent the interests of its members on issues such as environmental regulation, PFAS, gas abuse and metal theft, alongside coordinating responses of its members companies in potential crisis situations.”
This year the national trade body has flagged concerns over the growing presence of in the UK, warning they pose safety, health and regulatory risks.
With a commitment to stringent quality, safety and environmental measures, BCGA members employ 19,000 people directly and account for an annual turnover of £2.7bn.
Kuhn said the BCGA represents an industry that is “largely invisible but vital for the many industrial sectors it serves”.
“We have great people working in our member companies at all levels, but we face challenges in attracting talent and it is crucial that the BCGA continues to raise the profile of the industry in support of its members.”
Simon Fisher, Managing Director of Gas Con, was elected Vice-President at the recent annual conference in Manchester.
Kuhn thanked out-going President Chris Street for his excellent work over the past two years and to the Council for placing their confidence in him for a second time.
