Netherlands-based Nexperia and India’s Tata Electronics have signed a broad strategic partnership spanning semiconductor wafer manufacturing, assembly and innovation.
The partnership is structured around front-end wafer fabrication, back-end assembly and test, and technology development.
Both firms are laying the groundwork for the production of Nexperia’s Mosfet portfolio at Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300mm semiconductor fab in Dholera – where INOX Air Products is developing a facility .
The partnership also includes collaboration on semiconductor assembly and test of Nexperia’s discrete semiconductor products at Tata Electronics’ packaging facility in Jagiroad, Assam. Tata’s combined investments total $14bn.
Stefan Tilger, interim CEO, Nexperia, said the framework creates new opportunities and reinforces its commitment to provide a “resilient and globally balanced” manufacturing network, an increasingly key issue given the current supply chain stresses from the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Achim Kempe, Chief Operations Officer, Nexperia, said it is establishing a long-term partnership that supports innovation, growth and supply resilence across the semiconductor value chain.
Dr Randhi Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics, said its collaboration also aligns with the growing technology and trade relationship between India and the EU.
The trade deal is expected to create the world’s largest free trade zone, encompassing two billion people and around a quarter of global GDP.
