Oman Signs Agreement for Ibri III Solar Power Project to Boost Renewable Energy Transition

The Sultanate of Oman has signed an agreement for the development of the Ibri III Solar Power Project, a major step in the country’s transition towards renewable energy. Covering nearly 10 million square meters, the project will have a generation capacity of 500 MW along with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

With an investment of around OMR 115 million, the project is expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 505,000 tonnes annually and add up to 4% renewable energy to Oman’s total electricity generation mix.

The initiative is aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and supports the nation’s goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. Officials highlighted that the project demonstrates the confidence of both domestic and international investors in Oman’s renewable energy sector.

“This marks a significant achievement for renewable energy in Oman, from both technical and economic perspectives,” said H.E. Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. “It also reflects Oman’s steady progress towards a sustainable future, built on energy diversification, enhanced energy security, and strengthened economic competitiveness.”

The Ibri III Solar Power Project is expected to position Oman as a regional hub for clean energy, consolidating its role in advancing sustainable growth and energy security in the Middle East.
