The scheme is demand-driven, meaning any residential consumer with a grid-connected electricity connection can apply for the subsidy and installation through the National Portal. As of December 3, 2025, a total of 53,54,099 applications have been submitted on the portal, and installation of 19,17,698 rooftop solar systems has been completed, covering 23,96,497 households across India.

For the year 2025-26, the government has set a new goal to cover 35 lakh additional households. To support faster progress, several steps have been introduced to make the process simpler and more accessible. The entire procedure, from registration to receiving the subsidy, has been made online. The subsidy amount is transferred directly to the consumer’s bank account through the National Portal, ensuring transparency and quick financial support.

Consumers also have access to collateral-free loans from nationalized banks at a concessional interest rate of around 6 percent per annum with a repayment period of 10 years. The regulatory approval process has also been simplified by removing the requirement for technical feasibility checks and introducing auto load enhancement up to 10 kW.

The scheme has added RESCO and Utility Led Aggregation models and has made the net metering agreement part of the online application process. Vendor registration has been streamlined to ensure enough qualified vendors are available. Capacity-building programs and training initiatives are being conducted to create skilled manpower.

The government is also focusing on awareness through print advertisements, TV commercials, and radio campaigns across the country. Regular monitoring, regional review meetings, and a grievance redressal mechanism with a call center (15555) operating in 12 languages are helping resolve issues on time.

With these efforts, the scheme is expected to expand rapidly and benefit millions of households with clean, affordable solar power, reducing electricity bills and supporting India’s renewable energy goals.
