QatarEnergy has announced its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export cargo from the Golden Pass LNG project in Sabine Pass, Texas, a joint venture with ExxonMobil.
The first LNG cargo was transported on QatarEnergy’s Al-Qaiyyah LNG carrier, which was built in South Korea with a capacity of 174,000 cubic metres.
News of the export cargo follows from Train 1 at the Golden Pass LNG site in March.
Train 1 of Golden Pass LNG has a capacity of six million tonnes per annum. Trains 2 and 3, each with a capacity of around five to six million tonnes per annum, are still under construction following delays, with phased start-up expected between 2026 and 2027.
Around 70% of the project’s total 18 million tonnes per annum LNG capacity will be taken by QatarEnergy Trading, QatarEnergy’s LNG trading business.
QatarEnergy holds a 70% stake in Golden Pass LNG, with ExxonMobil holding a 30% stake. The partners made a final investment decision of over $10bn to develop the site in February 2019.
