Samsung secures $250m grant for semiconductor fab in Texas

Samsung Austin Semiconductor, a Texas-based Samsung subsidiary, is to receive a $250m grant to support the development of a $4.73bn semiconductor fabrication facility in Taylor.

The grant comes from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF), a state incentive programme created in June 2023 to boost semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing in the state.

Samsung’s Taylor fab will support the production of 2-nanometer logic chips as part of its US development strategy and shift towards more advanced manufacturing processes.

US President Trump has implemented several moves to promote the onshoring of semiconductor chip production. Additionally, in July, the US House of Representatives passed his budget bill, boosting the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Credit (AMIC) for the semiconductor industry from 25% to 35%.
